LITTLE RED IN THE CITY

Written by young Scottish knitting pattern designer Ysolda Teague and laid out and illustrated by Symposi, this 264-page book guides knitters through the process of creating their own custom-fit sweaters. A detailed reference section is followed by a collection of seven of Ysolda's thoughtful sweater patterns.

The book design feels like a peek inside Ysolda's own sketchbook. The pages are filled with a variety of hand-drawn elements: textured colored pencil drawings, hand-lettered pattern titles, even notes in Ysolda's own handwriting. Sweet illustrations of birds, leaves, flowers, bees and other elements fill the margins and compliment stitch patterns and motifs used in the sweater designs themselves.

The scrapbook feel of the book is further emphasized by the inclusion of a layer of photo-realistic, three-dimensional objects, allowing readers a peak at many of Ysolda's own favorite knitting notions; vintage needles and buttons, luxury yarns and other wee notions have been incorporated into the layouts to look as though they are actually sitting atop the pages.

In addition to the printed version, a digital eBook version "Little Red in the City" was also created.

"I’m so glad that Jess (co-founder of ravelry.com) introduced
me to her friend Julie, thinking that we might enjoy working together. Julie took my vague ideas of how I wanted the book to feel, instantly figured out everything I love and created a book design that’s much more perfectly me than I ever could have on my own. Her graphic design talents and hard work would have been enough, but Jess was right, she’s been so much fun to work with and I can’t wait to collaborate with her again."
